I think the pleasure of completed work is what makes blogging so popular. You have to believe most bloggers have few if any actual readers. The writers are in it for other reasons.
All you future Google Whores might want to pay attention to what I’m about to reveal. ~ John Chow

I am, in full disclosure, a member of the Media Elite. I’m a Conde Nast editor, run a glossy mainstream magazine, spent much of my career at The Economist and consort with known journalists. But nothing annoys me more than the oft-heard assertion within media circles that without us blogs would be nothing. ~ Chris Anderson

A blog is a type of website that is usually arranged in chronological order from the most recent ‘post’ (or entry) at the top of the main page to the older entries towards the bottom. ~ Darren Rowse

OK, I’m starting a blog. Why shouldn’t an officer of a public company start a blog? Hey, life is short. At some point, take RegFD to its logical extreme, and this is how we’re all going to be communicating anyways. Think about it. ~ Jonathan Schwartz

The personal nature of the blog is what they find appealing. ~ Ethan G. Salwen

It’s funny that when people reach a certain age, such as after graduating college, they assume it’s time to go out and get a job. But like many things the masses do, just because everyone does it doesn’t mean it’s a good idea. ~ Steve Pavlina

The casual conversational tone of a blog is what makes it particularly dangerous. ~ Daniel B. Beaulieu

The currency of blogging is authenticity and trust… you pay folks to blog about a product and you compromise that. I would almost care about this, but it’s so obvious to everyone that this is either a joke or an idiot that there is nothing more to say. ~ Jason Calacanis

I guess my point is, if you’re one of these people considering giving up on blogging in exchange for paying more attention to Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and MySpace, or whatever they throw at us mere mortals, bear in mind you are giving up on something rather unique and wonderful. ~ Hugh Macleod

The heart of blogging is linking…linking and commenting. Connecting and communicating – the purpose of the Internet. ~ George Siemens

The Lazysphere – a working definition – is a group of bloggers who I won’t name by name, but you can spot them a mile away. Rather than create new ideas or pen thoughtful essays, they simply glom on to the latest news with another “me too” blog post. ~ Steve Rubel

A blog is a personal diary. A daily pulpit. A collaborative space. A political soapbox. A breaking-news outlet. A collection of links. Your own private thoughts. Memos to the world. ~ Blogger

While some bloggers in networks are making pennies per the hour the network CEO’s and support staff are raking in huge salaries and getting VC Money to help furnish their homes. I don’t like it. It smells funny. ~ David Krug

One critical consideration when launching a blog is what you are going to call it. ~ Chris Garrett

The bottom line is that blogging is like sex. You can’t fake it. You can’t fake passion. You can’t fake wanting to engage with the public. If you do, it will ultimately be an unsatisfying experience for both the blogger and their readers. ~ Kevin Anderson

Bottomline of a successful blog is what else but solid contents. ~ Partha Bhattacharya

It should feel genuinely good to earn income from your blog – you should be driven by a healthy ambition to succeed. If your blog provides genuine value, you fully deserve to earn income from it. ~Steve Pavlina

I read blogs every day, for all sorts of reasons, but I turn to blogs especially when I want to hear alternative viewpoints – for example, information on a particular medical treatment from the viewpoint of patients receiving it, rather than doctors administering it; reports from the battlefield seen through the eyes of soldiers rather than politicians; thoughts on a particular technology from the standpoint of engineers rather than executives. ~ Jim Buckmaster

The ease and appeal of blogging is inspiring a new group of writers and creators to share their voices with the world. ~ Unknown

Blogs can help bring humanity back into the workplace. We have become so concerned with communicating numbers and processes that employees have forgotten how to build relationships. How can companies ask employees to provide superior service and innovative thinking when everything they see and hear flies in the face of that? Blogs help create a culture that supports those behaviors. ~ Michael Wiley

In truth, the real opportunities for building authority and buzz through social media have only just begun. You simply have to look and see where things are going instead of where they’ve been. ~ Brian Clark

Blogging is not rocket science, it’s about being yourself, and putting what you have into it. ~ Unknown

Blogs are already moving upmarket and improving. The term “Professional Blogger” is no longer an oxymoron. Some in the traditional media realize this – ESPN, for example, recently purchased the popular basketball blog TrueHoop.com to complement its other online news offerings. ~ Luke Langford

It’s a bold new world out there in the internet universe. New terms of art are being coined daily. The dictionary can’t keep up.

Most people who use Facebook or Twitter use it primarily to connect with their friends. It is purely a social animal for them.

For the internet entrepreneur, social media means something else entirely.

Social media is a motherlode awaiting discovery and innovation. Learn the existing applications, apply a few of your own personal ‘tweaks’ and you can start an entirely new stream to promote your business.

If you learn how to be a Social Media Rockstar, you can rock your internet business from home!

Here’s why you need to consider- and value- the Social Media approach for your internet business:

It’s fun. It’s more than fun. It can be addictive, in a good way.

Once you get going on Twitter or Facebook, it is hard not to get hooked. If you can get hooked, so can others.

Go where the action is. Learn how to target your audience for your business and build relationships.

If you learn how to do it properly, you get to have fun and build your business at the same time. What’s more fun than that?

No limits. Twenty years ago, less thought was given to appealing to a global market. Now the internet allows you to export your ideas and your business worldwide 24/7.

We can build friendships and connections around the world. An international community is developing.

Yet, the small things still connect people. Yesterday, an online friend expressed fear about upcoming oral surgery. My daughter had just had her wisdom teeth out so I shared some tips that got us through it and she passed it on to several of her friends.

A bevy of moms from several countries followed up to find out how my daughter fared. They have become followers on my blog and tweets; we have developed a bond. People are still people. It’s a small world after all. Cliche but still true. It is a powerful truth for online business.

Social Media has Leveled the Playing Field. Everyone can participate.

While some criticize this for causing a decline in quality content, others opine that it keeps authors honest.

With the enormous audience reviewing content quickly, the scam artist is likely to be called quickly on their posting. Loss of face and reputation online can sink you to the nether regions. That knowledge tends to keep most in line if our moral compass doesn’t.

The piece that ties all these ‘whys’ together is that you must learn how to use Social Media properly to leverage your business potential.

The key to making this happen is connecting with a quality internet mentor who can train you in cutting edge internet marketing skills.

If you get it, you really ‘get’ it.

You can be a Social Media Rockstar and rock your home online business. Listen. Learn. Take Action.

If you don’t know Amish Shah, you should. Not just because he’s a cool cat, been arrested by the FBI when he was 16, has seen his IM business skyrocket, or, because he’s doing something few IM’ers can: diversifying. No, because he’s applying some deep spiritual GTD to his business.

Money’s the oil, not the engine, and he knows this- he even mentions several times it’s just not about money… It’s evident in all the different ways he’s expanding his online presence and business. It’s even evident in how he handles people and situations. He recently had his magic bullet seminar (here, and here too) in San Diego this August- and drunk midgets crash the party. Amish cooly laughs, then gets back to the business of doling out gangster style IM techniques. He didn’t set out to become a guru, but his tactics, tips, advice, and services have made him one.

Amish gently nudges readers to goals, vision boards, and using The Law of Attraction (before the movie ‘The Secret’ exploited Esther and Jerry Hicks and Abraham) while avoiding the pitfalls, the things that just “don’t work”, like- negativity in thought patterns, a lack of focus and determination, and self-doubt.

I’ve been working with a number of clients involved heavily with Internet Marketing lately. As a Resonance Repatterning practitioner I help others help themselves realign with their inner coherence, their desires and wants. It breaks down the Energy patterns that are limiting a person from their potential… it’s a great complement to those that believe in the Law of Attraction. Internet Marketers are especially receptive to this work, as it complements desires and goals they already have. So… Internet Marketing, Resonance Repatterning, The Law of Attraction… it’s all tied together, and Amish Shah is the living proof.

He suggests vision boards as a great tool (called an Energy Modality in Resonance Repatterning). Mind Movies are also another great example…. and, there’s even a tool that can create a flowing vision board of wallpaper images on your PC (you supply the images of course). What youre really doing is inundating yourself- not with “What Is”, but “What you’d like”. Our brain responds the same way whether we are experiencing something, or visualizing something. Visualzing something, even with the three above mentioned examples, helps us “feel” as if our goals and desires are present and real. The real trick, as Amish states- it musy be a daily practice.

A lot of people get hung up on results and manifestations, and often quit before they ever realize their goals. Getting stuck on “making” something happen may be giving your attention to your failure to manifest rather than understanding the joy and positivity of manifesting is a continual process. We create our own reality, whether positive or negative… Being stuck on “being a victim”, “others can do it, but I can’t”, etc. will only get you more of the same. Forget all that and focus your attention and Energy on what works, and what you can do to achieve your goals. If you don’t or can’t, then all of your actions, especially relating to Internet Marketing, will be coming from a place of lack, and not a place of abundance. If you own your reality, own your creations, and allow your actions to be inspired and from a place that you know each little action contributes to your overall goal, you’ll succeed.

If you’re still struggling with it all and need to get your Inner Game in order, I’m positive Resonance Repatterning can help. Amish Shah is using these tactics and he may not even know about Resonance Repatterning… the principles of it work regardless of whether you understand it or not. Want to know more about how Resonance Repatterning can help you?

Get to it!

Most Internet Marketers tend to fail because they can’t maintain their focus or their momentum. While there are many reasons, it comes down to this: Their Inner Game wasn’t lined up with their actions.

Richard Branson’s business success largely stems from his personality, charisma, and vision. Richard Branson personifies his companies and the brand – Virgin. He has been building the Virgin brand all over the globe and has seen his efforts pay huge dividends in the press.

A recent survey suggests that the UK public love the Virgin brand more than any other. A sample of 2000 adults responded by saying that they admire the Virgin brand ahead of brands like Sony and Tesco. HPI Research.

Though Branson is 60 and Virgin is in its fourth decade of business, both portray an image of energy and initiative. Branson is cool and irreverent. If he is not posing for his Virgin airlines ads on the tarmac of an airport with a bevy of beauties in his arms he is busy circumnavigating the world in a hot air balloon.

People associate the word ‘fun’ with the Virgin group. And a lot of painstaking effort has been put in by the chairman of the group to achieve this. So brand savvy and fun loving is Richard Branson that he doesn’t even hesitate to appear in the latest Bond movie just for a few seconds. In “Casino Royale” Branson makes a cameo appearance as a passenger passing through airport security. Do not be mistaken, this was not an act of buffoonery. Branson knew the reach of a Bond movie and his strategic appearance at airport security definitely reminded people about his own airlines – very shrewd strategy indeed to promote a brand.

Learning swimming within 15 days, on his own at the age of five to win a ten shillings bet that his aunt Joyce had set; starting the “Student Magazine” at the age of 16; selling music albums from the trunk of his car; and setting up more than 200 businesses till now – Richard Branson personifies unmatched character and enterprise. The success that his businesses enjoy today is the result of the assiduous building of his brand.

Richard Branson himself declared that he wants to make Virgin the best brand in the world. Probably that’s the reason he designed his brand name a little bit like Coca-Cola with a red color background.

For some time I’ve been building up some fascinating data on the progress of female entrepreneurs around the world.

I want to know what the situation is like for women in different countries when it comes to business. What factors come into play from a cultural perspective as well as from a historical and political standpoint.

The spotlight this week is on female entrepreneurs in the USA.

I was really heartened to read a recent article on Forbes.com that shows women are becoming the nation’s job-creation engine, starting new businesses and completely outdoing our male counterparts. Yes, women who own businesses in the US will be responsible for creating one-third of the 15.3 million new jobs anticipated by the Bureau of Labor Statistics by 2018!

You should definitely read the article but here the key highlights from a newly published report by The Guardian Life Small Business Research Institute that excited me most:

Female small-business owners are focused on making work more enjoyable

Not only are women creating a positive work environment and more opportunities for other people, they’re also giving their employees a reason to feel better as a part of the team, paying the more and looking after their healthcare.

Female entrepreneurs are more concerned about building a lasting business

Women are adept at keeping the customers they have and cultivating customers who appreciate what they do. They are skilled at differentiating their businesses from competitors in a meaningful way, knowing what other small businesses are doing to improve, succeed or fail, and taking advantage of economic conditions.

Women are more open to taking advice and seeking valuable information

Women entrepreneurs seek input from their employees, chief operating officers, chief financial officers, accountants and financial advisors. They’re becoming better at taking a longer-term view of their businesses including having a succession plan in place, a retirement plan and something to sell at retirement to ensure they’re able to enjoy the fruits of their labour.

I really look forward to more people like Mark Wolf, the director of the Guardian Life Small Business Research Institute, to produce more research on the way women are impacting the world.

If you like what you’re reading then come and visit http://www.womanzworld.com and me – Natalie Sisson, a Kiwi Entrepreneur and Adventurer passionate about getting more women into business and having fun while doing it from anywhere around the world.

A key factor that leads one to become a successful entrepreneur would be actually growing up in the Silicon Valley. Andy grew up in Silicon Valley, with 2 entrepreneurial parents. So, dinner time conversation was almost always about business and technology during a very exciting time! Business and Technology have always been Andy’s passion and he spent his teenage years reading business books like Michael Lewis’ “Liar’s Poker” and “Barbarians at the Gate.”

Andy is also a coder, which lends to business success since coders do not have to rely on third parties to build their websites, business portals, databases, etc. This self reliance is key to building a successful business and is akin to a contractor building his own house. Andy founded, and was CEO, of eBenefits, a web based human resources service. At eBenefits, Kurtzig built a talented team, signed significant partnerships with Fortune 500 companies like Automatic Data Processing (ADP) and Marsh & McLennan, and raised $8 million of venture capital financing. He went on to sell eBenefits to an Inc 500 Company. Prior to starting eBenefits, Kurtzig founded ANSER to service and develop software for the newspaper industry. He holds a B.S. degree in Business Administration from the University of California at Berkeley. He is an angel investor in several companies including StubHub (acquired by eBay in 2007) and iLike.

Necessity being the mother of invention, Andy originally launched his most recent venture as a way to help his wife get answers about questions regarding pregnancy. His goal was to get legitimate answers to good questions. When you combine that with his strong business background, his location in the Silicon Valley and the ability to code his own software, you get JustAnswer.com.

JustAnswer® is a website where people go when they want an answer from a Doctor, Lawyer, Mechanic or one of thousands of third-party verified Experts one-on-one. Millions with questions come to the site for affordable and fast answers in more than 100 categories, ranging from Medical to Legal. Experts typically provide answers within minutes. Andy explained that there are experts in JustAnswer generating six figure incomes. Many earn less, but this has actual serious work from home, or your office, potential.

The experience of being a highly visible person such as television/movie stars, professional athletes, and high ranking officials, has been researched and investigated for many years. I will refer to all of those within these categories as Celebrities. Despite the research, little has been written about what the psychological impact actually means for the Celebrity. While it is true that in relation to the Celebrity themselves, being famous often leads to a total loss of privacy, a strong sense of entitlement, often unreasonable or demanding expectations, gratification of their ego, and a sense of immortality. Reasons for which, most people are unable to comprehend.

For most Celebrities, being famous leads to wealth, unbridled access to people, place and things, tremendous temptations, as well as fear and concern about the effect on their families. As to the psychological impact, my years of experience in working closely with Celebrities has divulged feelings of isolation, mistrust and paranoia, a tremendous fear of losing their fame, and often a skewed or confused sense of self. This skewed or confused sense of self is often created and magnified by the perceptions of the public and the media. The impact of such perceptions permeates the Celebrity’s psyche both in their public and their private lives. And so their identity begins to take on a new dimension and their personality begins to “shift.”

David Giles in Illusions of Immortality: A Psychology of Fame and Celebrity, (2000), writes about his research taken from interviews and surveys, to answer questions about the rise of stardom, the motivation to become famous, and the psychological impact of sudden popularity. Giles sees the Celebrity as arising out of the tradition in Western culture of placing importance on the “individual self.” He argues that fame should be seen as a process, rather than a state of being, because of the variety of changes a celebrity goes through when becoming a star. I would add that the public reinforces what I call a “personality shift” because it is the public’s consistent acknowledgement of the Celebrity as well as the public’s celebration of the Celebrity that drives the transformation. Couple this with a weaker ego, and the perfect storm is created for a life of grandiose behavior and heightened paranoia.

While most of the public can fantasize about what appears to be a perfect and charmed life, and quite often it is, there is a dark and lonely side that few in the general public can truly understand. At least until some tragedy occurs, such as the deaths of Brittany Murphy, Chris Farley, and Michael Jackson, which expose the inner struggles they faced during stardom. Compassion is rarely a word or feeling a Celebrity encounters by others. Too often, the charmed life perception leaves little room for empathy or sympathy. Walking a mile in one’s shoes might very well be the moral of this article for anyone who feels dismayed by a Celebrity’s complaint about their life or the tragedy they encounter. For better or worse, there is a clear and distinct psychological shift from being overly exposed to the media spotlight.
