<p>Lately it seems like everyone is vying for a coveted invite to  the latest and greatest in social media sites. We all want to be part of the excitement, and most importantly, we want to experience it first. The major source of this invite frenzy is Google+, a social networking  site that focuses on targeted sharing within specific <em>Circles</em> you create. Upon launch, people were tweeting and updating their  Facebook statuses about their desire to score an invite; everyone wanted  to be the first to know what the hype is about. Once people received  invites, other people were eager to jump on the bandwagon, and people  were signing up without even realizing what the site was about.</p>
<p>There&#8217;s  some marketing for you, folks. How do you get people to sign up for  something they aren&#8217;t completely 100% sure about? Generate a buzz on  Twitter and Facebook, and watch it go viral. From such a reputable  company, Google+ came pre-loaded with success; people would sign up just  because it&#8217;s from Google. It markets itself.</p>
<p>Also recently  launched was Spotify, a music streaming service that offers a large  library of music that is able to be played instantaneously. Spotify even  incorporates social media into the mix by allowing people to easily  share their musical choices on Facebook. Although invites were limited,  users who have high Klout were able to score a free pass to the front of  the invite line. Klout measures users&#8217; influence online by analyzing  the impact of posts and who/what they are influential about. Spotify recognized that if the program merged with social media, it should reach  out to those who had a large level of influence, as they would, in  turn, be promoting the service. They even offer the option to purchase a  membership if you don&#8217;t want to wait to receive an invitation. What  does this mean? Well, if influential Twitter and Facebook users receive a  free Spotify invite and are constantly talking about how awesome the  program is to all of their followers and friends, then other people are  going to be more likely to pay the fee to join in on the trend.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s  almost impossible not to jump on the bandwagon with social media sites  acting as a platform for people to vocalize their excitement for these  new innovative programs. There&#8217;s no doubting that Google+ and Spotify  prepared strategic marketing plans surrounding their launch periods, but  for a lot of people, it was the user-generated social media campaign  that generated a good chunk of awareness. Good call on their part  because people tend to really embrace peer recommendations.</p>
<p>So all  of those hashtags, updates, and statuses you post are definitely not  going unnoticed. We think you deserve a pat on the back for all of your  promo work. And perhaps an invite?</p>

<p>I never cease to be amazed by the fascinating virtual world and  as someone who spends a lot of time in it I sometimes wonder if it&#8217;s  taking over my reality!</p>
<p>It was easy to turn my nose up at vampire games and FarmVille; I mean they are not for serious business owners, right?</p>
<p>Then  along comes Empire Avenue and I was addicted on the very first day! The  good news is that using this new social media site you can measure,  track and build your social influence so it&#8217;s actually a good investment of your time.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s becoming more and more challenging with the thousands of online options vying for your attention to decide where indeed you should be spending your time for best return on it.</p>
<p>Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Empire Avenue and oh so many more&#8230; Where do you get started?</p>
<p>I&#8217;m fortunate as I got ahead of this curve and established myself on the main networks before most people took them seriously so it makes it easier to just add in a new one now and then.</p>
<p>I resist adding in more social media sites into my social media strategy unless I really see the benefit because unless you invest some time each day or week  into engaging with your potential clients on these sites, they will not be very valuable to you.</p>
<p>So what can you do to avoid falling into the trap of spending hours on social media and just wasting your valuable business and marketing time?</p>
<p>You need to get organised  and have a social media strategy. Yes there will be days where you are  enthused, it all comes easy and you do more than others.</p>
<p>On the  other hand you need a bottom line so that even on your uninspired days  you are building your influence with social media and this is what is  known as your &#8216;social media strategy.&#8217;</p>
<p>The biggest mistake I see amateurs make is spending lots of time chatting and networking on social media without first creating their client or customer converting marketing funnel. When you meet somebody new on Empire Avenue or Twitter, or your perfect client discovers you online, they need to be  able to find out enough about you in a couple of seconds to arouse their curiosity and feel compelled to leave you their contact details.</p>
<p>How does this happen? You set up your marketing funnel: Capture Page and free giveaway (special report or other valuable information) tantalisingly in place for them to simply click on and complete a form. Next thing they know you are in their inbox and claiming a tiny little  space in their life. If you don&#8217;t have this in place and they click  away, you will probably never bump into them again.</p>
<p>What I  recommend instead is that whilst you build your social media empire you  ensure that your internet empire and marketing foundation is in place  first to catch your hot prospects.</p>
<p>Capturing your ideal clients&#8217;  or customers imagination is easy when you have your marketing funnel,  marketing game plan and social media strategy in place.</p>
<p>If you  don&#8217;t have all these clear in your mind and on paper, you really do risk  burning truck loads of your precious time on social media with nothing  to show for it but a lot of &#8216;nice friends.&#8217;</p>

Or is Social Media the best place for gaining visibility  for your website? Internet marketing is such an endless field &#8211; only  your imagination can limit you. However, there are a few tried and  tested methodologies which have been prevalent over the years and have  the assurance of achieving results sooner than others.</p>

<p>Google the search engine pioneer has recently introduced Google+, which is their version of a social networking service that is similar to the popular Facebook that many are addicted too. Like any social networking service Google+, offers the ability to connect and share anything from pictures, music to specific personal thoughts with your friends and family, but it&#8217;s more versatile and geared towards group sharing in many different ways. The new Google+ features categories such as Circles, Hangouts, Huddle, Instant Upload, Sparks, Streaming, Games and +1. <p>You can video chat with up to ten people at the same time. It also allows the ability to watch a video with friends in the video chat at the same time, just by clicking the share button under the video on you tube. The only downside to this feature is that if someone gets a hold of the URL anyone can join the video chat even if they don&#8217;t know them. The Huddle feature allows multiple friends to instant message each other in groups through any smart phone or computer. Let&#8217;s say you and a few friends want to go to a movie. The Huddle feature makes this easy to decide which movie too watch because of its ability to instant message in groups like you can do on the well know video conferencing program called Skype.</p>
<p>The Instant Upload feature allows users to upload their photos from a smart phone anywhere they go and it puts the photos into a private photo album for viewing later where as, Facebook only uploads the photos directly to the front of a users page. Sometimes people don&#8217;t want to share all their photos with the world so the Google&#8217;s Instant Upload feature is more practical. Next, on the list of features is the Sparks feature, all you have to do is just type in what you&#8217;re interested in specifically. Let&#8217;s say fashion for instance and it will send you stuff it thinks might interest you within that category, so when you are free, there will always be something interesting to read share or watch. The Stream feature is just like any other stream the only difference is that it can filter to only show the posts from specific Circles.</p>
<p>Like other social networking sites Google Plus also has games, but is not its main focus and does not draw attention to them very much. They only have 16 games and there is a specific tab called games that they are all listed under. The Google +1 feature is like the like button on Facebook people click on what interests them and it recommends it to others with the +1 symbol. With such a demand for social media and its ability to rapidly create back links in SEO marketing. <p>As the world shifts to social, commerce is shifting as well. It used to be that one could open a product or a service store online, prepare a descriptive sales page, add a shopping cart and begin selling successfully. With the shift to social, traditional e-commerce is fast fading as the preferred mode in which people shop online. What is increasingly becoming necessary is that e-commerce is social. Social E-commerce or Social Commerce, as is increasingly becoming known as, is where e-commerce meets social.</p>
<p>According to Wikipedia, Social commerce is a subset of electronic commerce that involves using social media, online media that supports social interaction and user contributions, to assist in the online buying and selling of products and services. This definition could be even redefined as that Social Commerce is not just a subset of electronic commerce, but rather the preferred method, and very likely the only productive way of future electronic commerce.</p>
<p>So what exactly does Social Commerce mean? There are several characteristics that shape social e-commerce. Sellers desiring to implement social commerce into their trading could look at implementing the following themselves into their own sites, or could leverage social hubs or social marketplaces and begin trading their products and services.</p>
<p>The following characteristics define Social Commerce:</p>
<ol>
<li>As against traditional e-commerce, in the world of Social Commerce, buyers make their decisions to buy or try a product or service, not based just on seller description, but rather based on social reviews by other users</li>
<li>Buyers of products and services actively participate in providing feedback and recommendations to friends and others in the community. As such, it becomes very important that the seller closely watches feedback and correct any flaws rapidly so as to cause a change in any negative feedback</li>
<li>Users of a Social Hub actively share what they like (and not like), mostly with just a click of the mouse, across various social bookmark locations and social networks. These include Twitter, Facebook, Delicious, Stumble Upon, Delicious etc. Social Commerce is Viral Commerce</li>
<li>Increasingly, Social Commerce is also tuned with Mobile Commerce. As such, offers are shared with Mobile QR codes and RSS or Atom feeds making it a snap to share offers, likes and dislikes</li>
<li>The user is presented not just with the offer from one Seller, but often with related offers from other Sellers, so the potential Buyer can make a conscious choice looking not just at one offer, but a portfolio of all available offers, complete with reviews, recommendations and ratings.</li>
<li>Pictures and Videos are an inherent part of the offer, thus making the process of showcasing what the offer is, complete not just with text, but with images and videos. Such images and videos are shared across image networks and video networks, such as YouTube, thus facilitating additional viral distribution with ease</li>
<li>Everything a potential buyer needs to know, i.e. what the offer is, how long the offer will take to deliver, what exactly is needed from the buyer in case any, what payment methods are allowed, what will be delivered etc. is all evident within the description. The Buyer typically need not go anywhere else or click any other links to get a full picture to make a conscious decision.</li>
