Is important to foster a streamlined presence online and impress your network of friends and customers alike. Facebook is undeniably one of the most powerful social media tools that you can use to leverage in the viral power of the World Wide Web. It is best used to build and establish your brand, gain exposure, connect with customers and attract new clients. While it is fairly easy to set up a business page on Facebook, a lot of users are still unaware of how important Facebook branding is to build an impressive social media image that will enhance any business credibility.

A picture paints a thousand words

The first how-to lesson on Facebook branding is simply to use a suitable profile picture. Your profile image is one of the highlights of your page and it should convey and sum up what is in store in your page. You can cycle a few great images to provide fresh brand content depending on your business activities or events. If for instance you are running a promotion, you can post an image of the promotion as your page profile picture. Whatever image you choose, always ensure that the image is of high quality and up to par with your company’s high standard. The image should also be relatively in line with all your social media marketing objectives.

Mind your page’s thumbnail

To further enhance your Facebook branding, you should take into account the image of your thumbnail. Take note that the thumbnail image will appear for each time a comment is posted to other pages as well as on your fans’ news feeds. It is therefore imperative that your thumbnail is also pleasing to the eyes and ideally conveys your company brand. Hence, take time to edit your thumbnail appearance and reposition it to display a meaningful portion of the profile image. Play around with your profile image until it suits the appearance of the thumbnail. Don’t take this small tool for granted as it does create the most powerful impact on your social marketing efforts.

Take advantage of Facebook Photo Strip for adverts

Facebook photostrip is yet again another powerful Facebook branding tool that is so underused by many Facebook users. This tool will allow you to create 5 images that will be randomly rotated in the strip to serve as adverts for products or stuff that you want your fans or followers to check out. A great option is to tie in your photostrip images with your profile picture to show more of what your company is offering. You can also use graphics that will sum up your company profile and image.

Choose your associations carefully

The companies you are associated with can also make an impact in your Facebook branding. As a company it would be wise to also display your associations with other organizations in your page specifically in the featured “likes” portion of your page. The rule of thumb is to like organizations that are also beneficial to your brand. You can feature up to five organizations in your brand page. Remember to choose carefully as your associations with these organizations can make or break your reputation as well. Hence, choose well-liked and credible companies to feature that will also help enhance and uplift your company image.

By updating your page regularly, interacting with your customers as well as following the above Facebook branding tips, your brand will surely make a mark in the online community.

A social media optimization expert is one who has the skills and experience in the field of optimizing a company’s social media marketing efforts as well as its overall online presence. To be an effective social media optimization (SMO) practitioner, one must be able to provide attentive and active social media optimization services that are geared towards engaging the target market, diverting traffic, increasing visibility, and boosting the sales performance of the client’s website.

SMO should not be confused with search engine optimization (SEO) as there are distinct differences. SEO is the process of optimizing a website for the purpose of obtaining a favorable ranking with the major search engines such as Google, Yahoo, and Bing. This requires some work to be done on the site’s elements such as the content pages, headers, title, and meta tags. SMO, on the other hand, is focused more on making the site, its business message, and contents accessible and easy for the target audience to understand. Instead of search engines, online users are the main targets of SMO thrusts.

Because the target audience is the main focus of SMO, a friendly tone and a more personal touch are usually required. This is in stark contrast to the cold and emotionless codes and tags commonly associated with SEO efforts. It is therefore important for the social media optimization expert to be very familiar with the target demographics and how to reach out to them. The convenience provided by the social network sites today makes it easier for SMO professional to accomplish these tasks.

The primary objective of SMO is to produce successful marketing results by creating a social buzz about the client’s site using various social marketing venues and services. This includes social network sites, blogs, vblogs, micro-blogging platforms, RSS feeds, message boards, discussion forums, 3rd party widgets, and other similar sites and applications.

If you think you are in need of expert SMO services, you need to consider a few things before deciding to hire one. First, you must determine what your specific needs are and find out if the prospective SMO provider can meet those needs. Normally, SMO experts are called in to perform services in areas such as social media marketing (Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube), keyword forensics, expert SEO advice, syndication, social stimulus, management and repair of damaged reputation, and other related services.

The SMO specialist must also be adept at employing the latest leveraging techniques and how they can help ensure success for your company. Ultimately, the consultant must be able to help increase your website’s conversion rate. This is why the SMO consultant must also be adept and experienced in search engine optimization techniques as a lot of factors depend on the ability of the website to draw significant targeted traffic.

After all, without traffic, no amount of buzz created by social media marketing can improve the overall sales performance. SEO and SMO must therefore work together and complement each other. The social media optimization expert that you will hire must be able to address that very important concern.

Finding the perfect place for showcasing products, services and websites for free is every business-minded netizen’s dream. Thankfully, Facebook has made this “dream” a reality. With over half a billion users and thousands of fan pages and online communities to check out, the popular social media platform has brought potential clients closer to home.

It’s no longer a secret how Facebook is crucial in online marketing. Nonetheless, many people believe that a single register is enough. For marketers, this is not enough. There is so much more to Facebook marketing than just putting up your profile. Keeping your fans involved is the ultimate key. In this article are six powerful Facebook marketing tips to help you find your way to success!

Create your Facebook profile. Start establishing your identity by creating a Facebook profile for yourself and your business. Having a Facebook profile as your way of positioning a business will take you a long way in establishing relationships with users. In creating your profile, don’t forget to put in your profile picture, photo albums and videos, wall and “add friends” button.

Create a fan page for your business. Facebook pages, also referred to as “fan pages”, are typically designed for brands, products, services, celebrities, musicians and businesses. The fan page feature enables organizations, public figures and other entities to generate public presence in Facebook. You can encourage potentials to become fans of your business page by sharing any significant information with them via uploading photos and videos worth a million shares, administering discussion posts and displaying status updates or wall posts.

Use the Facebook Events feature. The latter helps you connect with your target clients by sending them invites to your events, even if some of them aren’t included in your list of friends or fans. Facebook gives users an opportunity to create their own events that can be either public or private.

Participate in other Facebook pages. Take a research on other fan pages related to your business. Use the website’s “search” tool so you can actively start posting comments on their updates. This is also a way for you to build a connection with the industry.

Tag your fans via photos. You can tag your fans in photos with your new collections or convince them to tag themselves as a part of your promo. In 2009, Grammy-winning musician Lenny Kravitz uploaded over a hundred photos of his Italian tour and asked his then two million fans to tag themselves. This resulted to good publicity as many of his Kravitz’ updates on being tagged appeared on the fans’ wall.

Generate Facebook Plug-ins to your page. The “Like” button enables users to share anything from your page to their profile. The “Recommendation” button meanwhile gives them the option of personalizing suggestions for other fan pages they like. These two are just among the few plug-ins you need to generate. Other buttons that can be essential in Facebook marketing are LiveStream, LikeBox and comments.

Why Would I Tell Others What I Am Doing?

This article is about making Twitter pay in your business or life. Twitter is very new in the bigger world of communicating. It is still in the adoption phase, and that makes Twitter a moving target with regard to how best to you use it. Personally, “tweeting” is fine, if my time is unlimited and my interests are diverse. However to many of us, we need to make our Twitter time pay off. Below I give you the 3 top uses of Twitter so that immediately you put it to its absolutely best use.

Twitter as the latest social web networking gizmo, is intended to allow others of your choice to know what you do all day. You may ask yourself, “why should I spend my time telling other people what I am doing?” That is a very good question. Twitter is designed to generate social and business value out of answering that question. On the face of it, Twitter looks like a monumental instant messaging system. And some people use it that way. But that is not what it is about. At least, that is not what where its true power resides.

What Is The Unique Value of Twitter

Here is the answer. In short, Twitter is immediate, it is searchable, and it allows you access to contacts that can be of further use to you. On top of this, everything about Twitter is free. If you believe in what you do, what you do all day will be in line with your interests and beliefs. So if I am reading a blog, writing an article or filming a video, then that stuff will be of interest to my followers. You might say that that is nobody’s business if you are from the old school. In the old days, your family or the people that live in your neighborhood and work in your office or place of work are the only people that need to know. Well, the neighborhood just got much bigger due to the web. Your community is defined across geography and the people that you see everyday. And more and more, the way that you make yourself known to others that share a mutual interest, is through the web. Use Twitter to find, communicate with and promote to them.

The best way to utilize this article is to bring to mind now the things that are important to you:
1) your market niche,
2) a personal interest or hobby
3) a cause that you are committed to.

When you read this brief article, use your interest to put this information to work immediately by trying it out. Here are the three ways to use Twitter:

1. The Twitter Search

There are at least three ways of searching Twitter to find out things of importance to you. Here are the ones that I find most useful:

What is the most popular URL of interest to you being discussed now on Twitter? Remember content is on websites, not usually on 2.0 sites. Therefore, in order to answer this question, you should go to Twitter(url)y. Twitter(url)y provides a sort of voting system based on the number of times that a URL is used (either in TinyURL, Snipurl (snurl) or full URL) by people using Twitter. URL’s are ranked from top 100 highest voted URL’s based on this voting system.

Most popular topic of interest to you . Use http://search.twitter.com to find specific term(s) that is(are) of interest to you. Are you interested in bee farming….type it in the search bar, and find out what’s buzzing. And seriously, bee farming does have results in this search.

Others in your geographical area with similar interests on Twitter. Use http://www.twitterlocal.net/. Are your interests local? Now you can connect with people in your area that Twitter in areas of interest to you. TwitterLocal allows you to receive tweets specifically from people of specified distances from a zip code of your choice. This is great if you have social interests (schools, organizations, government) that you want to be updated about. It also provides the top 40 worldwide locations with the highest Twitter activity if you want to connect with the hottest geographies. If you are opening a hot dog stand in your area, this would be a good way to get the word out for free.

2. Contacts – New and Existing Twitter is about finding out what is being discussed. But more importantly, Twitter is about who is discussing it. How do you find out about high impact people now? In the virtual world, probably you search on Google and read and comment on their blogs or you get involved in on-line communities. In the real world, you have real communities or maybe Meet-Up groups.

After you find out Twitter people that are talking about the things that are important to you via one of the methods above, follow them by clicking on their link. In the beginning, you may be tempted to follow everybody. Resist the temptation. Choose carefully who you follow. I find a good way to decide who I will follow, is to look at some of the content that they have created (not just re-tweeted) and find out if they appear to be opinion leaders and not just re-distributing other peoples’ material all of the time. The opinion leaders are important because they will give you access to quality material and they can in turn be useful for getting behind your opinions.

When you create quality material, you will quickly become known for that and people will begin to follow you very quickly.

3. Promoting Content

Most likely, you will have some content that you have or will create that merits some distribution to a deserving audience. Your content could be anything – a grand opening of a physical store, a website or blog, or a YouTube video (or Facebook Page or Linked-In page). You name it. Twitter gives you 140 characters per tweet to get your word out. Additionally for long URL’s, it will automatically provide a shortened version (TinyURL). You need to think very compact and creative to get your word out in 140 characters. Twhirl is a user interface that can be downloaded for free and can reside on the desktop of your computer for ongoing access to Twitter.

When promoting anything, remember that you are doing people a favor in communicating to them via Twitter. In so doing, ensure that you include followers that are open and willing participants in mutual interests. Make your content relevant to your followers. Also if you have found something of interest, re-tweet that content that would be of mutual interest to your followers. Influencing other people to your way of thinking is also a good use of your time on Twitter. After all, if you believe in what you do, it will be reflected in what you do all day. So, when you are tweeting something that you are doing presently it should be something that is at least, expectantly entertaining, or at the least content-rich. Be respectful of others’ eye-time.

In Summary

Twitter has its focused use. If you are looking for the latest, searchable news and who is in on “the conversation”, this is the medium for you. I heard a quote that says “the community defines the channel, the channel does not define the community.” Twitter is the channel, the community is yours. The Twitter channel is a fast-paced one that provides vital signs to some conversations that are or will be important to you. It is not the answer to every communication need, but it is valuable. Use the information right now to put this to work for you.

Twitter users will likely recognize the newest name in the social networking game: Klout.

Klout measures your influence based on your social network profiles. For instance, you’d register with Klout (free at klout.com) and link your Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Blogger (and any other networks that Klout supports) accounts.

Klout then reads what you’re writing about, who you follow, who follows you, how many times people share what you have to say, and so on. There’s some crazy math going on behind the curtain, but all you need to worry about is your Klout score. From 1 – 100, think of Klout as a social networking candy thermometer and your score as your temperature. In this case, similar to when you were a kid and wanted to skip school, the higher the number the better.

Why does Klout matter? As an author trying to build my platform, I often wonder “am I doing enough?” or “am I visible enough?” Klout, in my opinion, is a handy tool just to check how you’re doing. It’ll give you an “instant read” on how much you’ve been interacting lately, how much you’ve been sharing, how focused you are when it comes to the topics you talk about, and how after other people are reading and reacting to what you have to say.

Rather than sit there and wonder if social networking is doing you any good, let Klout take your temp and tell you how much progress you’re making.

All that said, it’s easy, too easy, to get caught up in the numbers. I see some people who stress over the fact that their Klout score has dropped a point.

That’s not what’s important. Think of your Klout score as a guide. The highest Klout scores I’ve seen belong to celebrities. People with hundreds of thousands of followers are bound to have their words shared more and they’re bound to have more people talking to them. It’s a numbers game. You can’t compete with that.

Let me repeat: you cannot compete with a celebrity with 2 million followers. So cut yourself some slack if you’re at a 35 and Ashton Kutcher is a 72.

What to do next:

Sign up for Klout. ( http://www.klout.com )

See where you currently stand once you’ve linked your current networks.

Watch your score once per week over the next month.

See what topics Klout says you’re influential about.

Use the search box at the top of the Klout website to see where your friends and peers are sitting on the Klout list.

Carry on as usual and don’t worry about your Klout score too much.

Tweeter is no longer something new. Today, everybody knows about Twitter; your folks, friends and even grannies are all twitting. If you have an online business, how can you take advantage of Twitter to grow your online business?

Here are tips and tricks that work.

Real Photos Count a Lot

Social platform users prefer to connect with real faces, not logos or some images. So, use your real photo in your Twitter page instead of company image or logo. Besides, using a business logo would only create the impression that it is all about boring sales tone, this is a huge turn off for most social network users.

Your Bio Line

Your bio line comes before your tweets; people would want to know if you are worth following through your bio line. Remember, only 160 characters are available for your bio line, so don’t blab, ensure that you maximize it. Avoid using a sales pitch or making it spammy. Just use the right words to describe yourself and your business. You can also include the URL to your blog or website.

Tips on Getting People to Follow You on Twitter

Your email list or business contacts serve as viable tool for achieving twitter following. If these people are Twitter users already, invite them to follow you. Include your Twitter URL on your site, in your email signature as well as blogs – you are indirectly asking people to follow you on twitter. Other places you can incorporate your Twitter URL include your flyers, business cards and other conventional business materials.

A helpful thing to do is to register at twellow.com for free – this is the Yellow Pages of Twitter users. You will be listed in a Twitter directory in your business niche. Take advantage of every opportunity to spread the news about your presence on Twitter. Include your Twitter URL in your Facebook page and get the link spreading as you share it for your friends on Facebook.

The most beneficial following on Twitter is when you follow the authorities as well as regular Twitter users in your specific niche. This will help you to know how you can enhance your result and you will get to interact more with like-minds.

By nature, humans are very curious. They would want to know who is following who, so they will regularly follow the links to know the caliber of people following those in their niche. Thus, concentrate more on seeking followers who share the same business line and interest with you. Don’t be passive, be part of the conversations and give your own advice.

Establish yourself as an authority in your niche and watch followers flow naturally to you.

There are over three million active Facebook pages, and these pages are gaining millions of new fans every day.

Yes, I just said fans.

Although the button has changed from “Become a fan” to “Like,” the action of joining a brands page remains the same. Facebook pages are still fan pages.

With Facebook’s announcement of The New Messaging there are more reasons to like Facebook, and Facebook pages, than ever.

I hope you enjoy this post about 50 Ways to Get More People to “Like” your Facebook Page, and if you do I would really appreciate it if you share these tips with your friends, and join the FacebookFlow fan page.

Here are the tips:

1. Post a Status Update

Post a status update mentioning your Facebook page.

Don’t be afraid to outright ask people to join your Facebook page. Ask and you shall receive.

Give them a great reason why they should join, tell them news, or find a creative way to mention and link to your page.

2. Link to Your Page as a Place of Employment

The info box under profile pictures is being phased out, so now if you want an omnipotent link on your profile to your page you will need to list your Page under employment. Once you do this your Facebook Page will appear under your name on your Profile.

3. Offer an incentive for people to sign up

Using some static fbml you can create a dynamic Facebook landing page with a “reveal tab” that contains content that is visible only to fans of your page.

The more valuable your incentive is, the more people will be compelled to click the “Like” button to access it.

Examples of exclusive content could be: An exclusive Video, an exclusive whitepaper/.pdf, exclusive pictures.

Stay tuned to FacebookFlow. In one of our upcoming posts will explain how to set up a “reveal tab.”

The image below shows different levels of increasing effectiveness for acquiring new fans.

Involve offers apps (and several of them are totally free) that make it easy to create a “Fan Gate” containing incentives, like a file or coupon, that will cause more people to “Like” your page.

4. Contact admins of groups related to your page

Groups are more powerful than pages in terms of their messaging ability. Pages send updates, but groups send messages directly to a users Facebook inbox, triggering an email alert.

If you contact the admin of a Facebook group with some valuable content that adds value to their readers then this can help them nurture their community and help you build yours.

5. Get people to join your page via SMS

Send a text message to 32665 (FBOOK) with the words “fan yourusername” OR “like yourusername” (without the quotes).

This feature is ideal when you’re in front of a live audience.

6. Install a page Badge

Facebook Badges are a simple, yet effective way to link to your Facebook profile.

Unlike widgets, badges are simply images, and will load much faster.

7. Install a Facebook “Like Box” into your site

Installing a “Like Box” is an excellent way to allow visitors to your site become fans without even leaving your page.

The like box builder tool makes it easy to customize the size of your like box, the number of connections to display, and even the color scheme.

Shown in the image below is the rarely used “dark” color scheme.

8. Use status tagging

Status tagging is a cool and fairly new feature of Facebook.

This feature allows you to tag any page or person by entering the @ sign and then typing the name of the page or person you want to tag.

9. Suggest your page to friends

Use the “suggest to friends” feature of your page. Use this feature sparingly. Personally, I try to only invite people go my page once because I know it annoys me when multiple people invite me.

If you have many friends you might want to consider using the “invite all” Google chrome extension, rather than clicking hundreds or thousands of times.

10. Install a Like Button into your site

Installing a like button allows visitors to like your page, and when they do this posts the their activity stream.

This can send more traffic to your site and if you have a Facebook “Like Box” and other content promotion your fan page, since this will help you convert your visitors into fans.

11. Connect your page to Twitter

Facebook Page to Twitter

Connecting your page to Twitter is an excellent way to convert your twitter followers into Facebook fans.

Using this strategy will cause all of your posts to be sent to twitter, with a link back to the Facebook version of the post.

12. Get fans to upload and tag photos

If you host (or attend) an event with several of your fans take a bunch of pictures, post them to your page, and then ask your friends to tag themselves in the pictures.

If you can get your fans to upload pictures to your page, or tag themselves in pictures you uploaded, this will post to their walls as well and will lead to additional traffic for you.

13. Install commenting on your landing page

This will allow people to comment on your page, even if they are not a fan.

Any comments made can broadcast to news feeds and lead to more traffic to your page.

Setting up Facebook commenting requires registering a Facebook application, so act on this tip with caution unless you are comfortable with code.

14. Leverage Traditional Media

Since Facebook is so widespread you can use any forms of traditional media and achieve results.

Newspapers, Media Buys, Radio, and TV all work, but are often very costly.

To maximize your promotion offer a free gift to those who join you page.

15. Newsletter promotion

If you do email marketing send a message to your subscribers letting them know about your fan page and consider including a link to your fan page in every email.

Lately it seems like everyone is vying for a coveted invite to the latest and greatest in social media sites. We all want to be part of the excitement, and most importantly, we want to experience it first. The major source of this invite frenzy is Google+, a social networking site that focuses on targeted sharing within specific Circles you create. Upon launch, people were tweeting and updating their Facebook statuses about their desire to score an invite; everyone wanted to be the first to know what the hype is about. Once people received invites, other people were eager to jump on the bandwagon, and people were signing up without even realizing what the site was about.

There’s some marketing for you, folks. How do you get people to sign up for something they aren’t completely 100% sure about? Generate a buzz on Twitter and Facebook, and watch it go viral. From such a reputable company, Google+ came pre-loaded with success; people would sign up just because it’s from Google. It markets itself.

Also recently launched was Spotify, a music streaming service that offers a large library of music that is able to be played instantaneously. Spotify even incorporates social media into the mix by allowing people to easily share their musical choices on Facebook. Although invites were limited, users who have high Klout were able to score a free pass to the front of the invite line. Klout measures users’ influence online by analyzing the impact of posts and who/what they are influential about. Spotify recognized that if the program merged with social media, it should reach out to those who had a large level of influence, as they would, in turn, be promoting the service. They even offer the option to purchase a membership if you don’t want to wait to receive an invitation. What does this mean? Well, if influential Twitter and Facebook users receive a free Spotify invite and are constantly talking about how awesome the program is to all of their followers and friends, then other people are going to be more likely to pay the fee to join in on the trend.

It’s almost impossible not to jump on the bandwagon with social media sites acting as a platform for people to vocalize their excitement for these new innovative programs. There’s no doubting that Google+ and Spotify prepared strategic marketing plans surrounding their launch periods, but for a lot of people, it was the user-generated social media campaign that generated a good chunk of awareness. Good call on their part because people tend to really embrace peer recommendations.

So all of those hashtags, updates, and statuses you post are definitely not going unnoticed. We think you deserve a pat on the back for all of your promo work. And perhaps an invite?

Are you using Google+ or Spotify? If not, what invitation do you most want to receive?

I never cease to be amazed by the fascinating virtual world and as someone who spends a lot of time in it I sometimes wonder if it’s taking over my reality!

It was easy to turn my nose up at vampire games and FarmVille; I mean they are not for serious business owners, right?

Then along comes Empire Avenue and I was addicted on the very first day! The good news is that using this new social media site you can measure, track and build your social influence so it’s actually a good investment of your time.

It’s becoming more and more challenging with the thousands of online options vying for your attention to decide where indeed you should be spending your time for best return on it.

Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Empire Avenue and oh so many more… Where do you get started?

I’m fortunate as I got ahead of this curve and established myself on the main networks before most people took them seriously so it makes it easier to just add in a new one now and then.

I resist adding in more social media sites into my social media strategy unless I really see the benefit because unless you invest some time each day or week into engaging with your potential clients on these sites, they will not be very valuable to you.

So what can you do to avoid falling into the trap of spending hours on social media and just wasting your valuable business and marketing time?

You need to get organised and have a social media strategy. Yes there will be days where you are enthused, it all comes easy and you do more than others.

On the other hand you need a bottom line so that even on your uninspired days you are building your influence with social media and this is what is known as your ‘social media strategy.’

The biggest mistake I see amateurs make is spending lots of time chatting and networking on social media without first creating their client or customer converting marketing funnel. When you meet somebody new on Empire Avenue or Twitter, or your perfect client discovers you online, they need to be able to find out enough about you in a couple of seconds to arouse their curiosity and feel compelled to leave you their contact details.

How does this happen? You set up your marketing funnel: Capture Page and free giveaway (special report or other valuable information) tantalisingly in place for them to simply click on and complete a form. Next thing they know you are in their inbox and claiming a tiny little space in their life. If you don’t have this in place and they click away, you will probably never bump into them again.

What I recommend instead is that whilst you build your social media empire you ensure that your internet empire and marketing foundation is in place first to catch your hot prospects.

Capturing your ideal clients’ or customers imagination is easy when you have your marketing funnel, marketing game plan and social media strategy in place.

If you don’t have all these clear in your mind and on paper, you really do risk burning truck loads of your precious time on social media with nothing to show for it but a lot of ‘nice friends.’
