It’s a bold new world out there in the internet universe. New terms of art are being coined daily. The dictionary can’t keep up.

Most people who use Facebook or Twitter use it primarily to connect with their friends. It is purely a social animal for them.

For the internet entrepreneur, social media means something else entirely.

Social media is a motherlode awaiting discovery and innovation. Learn the existing applications, apply a few of your own personal ‘tweaks’ and you can start an entirely new stream to promote your business.

If you learn how to be a Social Media Rockstar, you can rock your internet business from home!

Here’s why you need to consider- and value- the Social Media approach for your internet business:

It’s fun. It’s more than fun. It can be addictive, in a good way.

Once you get going on Twitter or Facebook, it is hard not to get hooked. If you can get hooked, so can others.

Go where the action is. Learn how to target your audience for your business and build relationships.

If you learn how to do it properly, you get to have fun and build your business at the same time. What’s more fun than that?

No limits. Twenty years ago, less thought was given to appealing to a global market. Now the internet allows you to export your ideas and your business worldwide 24/7.

We can build friendships and connections around the world. An international community is developing.

Yet, the small things still connect people. Yesterday, an online friend expressed fear about upcoming oral surgery. My daughter had just had her wisdom teeth out so I shared some tips that got us through it and she passed it on to several of her friends.

A bevy of moms from several countries followed up to find out how my daughter fared. They have become followers on my blog and tweets; we have developed a bond. People are still people. It’s a small world after all. Cliche but still true. It is a powerful truth for online business.

Social Media has Leveled the Playing Field. Everyone can participate.

While some criticize this for causing a decline in quality content, others opine that it keeps authors honest.

With the enormous audience reviewing content quickly, the scam artist is likely to be called quickly on their posting. Loss of face and reputation online can sink you to the nether regions. That knowledge tends to keep most in line if our moral compass doesn’t.

The piece that ties all these ‘whys’ together is that you must learn how to use Social Media properly to leverage your business potential.

The key to making this happen is connecting with a quality internet mentor who can train you in cutting edge internet marketing skills.

If you get it, you really ‘get’ it.

You can be a Social Media Rockstar and rock your home online business. Listen. Learn. Take Action.

Pretty much everything you read about goals in human achievement tells you about the importance of goals, how to make them, and how to use them to succeed. Unless this is the first article you’ve read about goals or you’re a confirmed doubter, you know that goals are important.

Simply, most of our achievements in life start with an idea of something that we would like to do, to have, or to achieve. Many people call this the dream. It’s an idea, a concept of something we want.

Some people think a dream is the same thing as a goal, but it’s really not. Think of a goal as a dream with a date on it. That’s over-simplifying, but it’s easy enough to understand. Dreams can be a bit vague but goals have to be specific. To make this easier, I’ll discuss it in relation to a recent diet of mine.

Click here to view the embedded video.

My dream, if you will, was not to weigh a certain amount. That’s really too vague. What is a “weight”? It’s an arbitrary number that an instrument gives us to show what? If you don’t understand scales, pounds, and the relationship between height and build, it’s just a number. My dream was not something like that; my dream was an image I had in my mind. That image was my person in a slimmer body. I knew what I wanted to look like. That picture in my mind was my dream.

During my life I have moved through weights from around 5-1/2 pounds to 220 pounds. I say I’ve moved through them. Actually, sometimes I’ve moved through ranges of those weights more than once! But, I remember what I looked like when I was at some of those weights. In fact, I still have pictures of my wife and me at our wedding when I weighed between 135 and 140. That’s not my dream, but I have the image. If your weight is higher than what you want it to be, I’ll bet that you have an image of you with your preferred body shape in your mind too. So I had a dream, a vision.

Next, I had to refine the dream into a specific goal. I had to do some analysis to find a goal that would produce an acceptable vision. So, I chose the weight that would meet the vision, and then I put a time frame on it. In my case, that was easy because I was going on my first-ever cruise in nine months…now I had a date and motivation!

Dreams and goals are important, but you won’t achieve them without a plan. You need a plan that you believe you can follow, one that you are confident will produce the desired results, and one that you can use to measure your progress. Also, you need to be able to adjust your plan if it doesn’t produce as you want it to.

I was fortunate that I had dieted before and had a pretty good idea of what worked for me. So, I put a plan in place that reduced my daily calorie intake to a set amount and continued the exercise routine I had already developed. I created a goal chart to track my progress on a monthly basis. And, I set an end date for achieving the goal. I’d never started a diet this way before. I’d had the dream before, and I’d had goals before. I had just never laid them out in a reasonable, long-term, measurable manner before. This time I decided to follow things I’d learned about goal setting, and I was going to succeed.

So I started my diet, followed my plan, and tracked my progress. As time went on, I could look at my progress and decide whether the plan was working and whether I was really executing the plan. How did it work? Well, I lost over half of what my goal was. What happened?

Remember that thing about visualizing what you want? As it turns out my vision of myself wearing some clothes that I already owned became reality before the final goal. I reached that point and lost another five pounds but fell off my plan at that point. I still need to get the vision of myself at the final goal weight, and it needs to be a vision of something I really want, something that will provide the motivation to take me the rest of the way.

Summary

What can we learn from this real-life example?

The dream must be something you can visualize so you really see yourself fulfilling it.
The goal is established by defining the dream with numbers that are measurable.
The plan has to be something you believe will work and that you can track yourself on.
Progress must be checked along the way.
Did I fail? No. I haven’t reached the final goal yet, but I now weigh 25 pounds less than when I started, and I’ve maintained that for almost nine months! That’s not failure, that’s progress toward my goal.

Have you ever been sidetracked from a good idea, a meaningful goal, or your dream because you did not quite know how to make it materialize? The ability to make your ideas or dreams a reality is not only a key factor of success, it is also an indispensable asset to achieving happiness, or to one’s ability to recover quickly from unexpected setbacks. It takes a tremendous amount of mental fortitude, realistic thinking, and creative problem solving to be able to achieve the success and happiness one desires out of life. These are just some of the conditions and actions that it takes, in order to have an idea materialize, or make a dream come true. Persistence is not just the ability to keep on keeping on; it is also the very essence of making ideas and dreams a reality.

Nothing can exist, survive, or last unless it can also persist. With that being said, how do you make an idea persist, until it materializes? How do you maintain your motivation and drive in the face of challenges? Most importantly, how can you free yourself from the elasticity of recurring problems, so that you can move forward with less effort or stress – and with greater effectiveness? The key here is to know and fully understand what the elements of persistence are, and use them to take effective actions that will get you results. No solution is useful to anyone unless they know about it and feel certain they can use it to accomplish the results they desire. Allow me to introduce the book and workbook Secrets of the Art of Persistence – solutions for turning your ideas and dreams into reality.

If you are someone who is full of enthusiasm and ready to embark in a new business, project or goal, one of the disappointments you may be facing is how to demolish negative nannies, the people who laugh at you and tell you it can’t or you won’t achieve your dreams.

This can be extremely difficult when the people closest to you don’t support your goals and dreams. I call these dream stealers. Dream stealers are the people who make you believe that you’ll never reach your dreams. They’re the people that encourage you to play it safe. For instance, they tell you to get a nice safe job. It is not uncommon to get a response like this from parents. That’s not surprising because family members are often the worst offenders when it comes to stealing your dreams.

You may even know of family or friends who have tried to hold you back from pursuing your goals and dreams. Perhaps they had fears of success, and because they had fear, they held themselves back from going after their own dreams. And as a result of giving up an opportunity to live their dreams, they can’t stand to see you succeed where they failed.

Here are some tips to consider before you share your dreams with other people.

1.	Share your dreams with the people who will be excited about what you want to accomplish with my life. This may mean you don’t share your dreams with family members. Talk to people who are support and will encourage you.
2. Share your successes but not your failures. When you talk about your successes, it makes you feel good and gives you confidence. Never share your failures with the dream stealers because they take that as validation of their opinion that you were not going to succeed.
3. Plan your defense. Perhaps your family and friends may question why you didn’t share your dream. You may want to tell them that you wanted to have it done before you told anyone, because it was a big goal. You wanted to see if you actually could accomplish it.
4. Remember: It’s your dream. Everyone may have their ideas about how you should live your life and what you should do with your life. But-this is the best part-everyone gets to choose what they want to do with their life.

So here is a success strategy. The next time someone tells you can’t pursue your dreams. Instead of the word “no” debilitating you, use it to empower you to achieve a whole new level of greatness you never dreamed possible. If you implement the tips, you will discover that you don’t have to check in with anyone: it’s your dream and your dream loves you.
